Space Station Citidas

[Space Station Citidas Emblem]

TRIOP CORPORATION
SPACE STATION CITIDAS
(CITIDAS STATION)
SATURN-RHEA L5

3.15.2071

1) OVERVIEW

Space Station Citidas (alternatively known as "Citidas Station" or simply "Citidas") is a research and manufacturing facility constructed by the TriOp Corporation housing over 430 employees on a permanent and temporary basis. The station orbits the ringed gas giant Saturn at Rhea L5, which places it at an ideal location for detailed observation of the planet, its rings, and its numerous moons. The original documentation for Space Station Citidas placed it at the Saturn L6 point, which DOES NOT EXIST -- clearly an error made by their marketing division when writing the initial proposals.

Citidas Station has a vertical length of 427 meters from the lower tip of the reactor radiator piles to the top of the control bridge deck, not counting the bridge's antenna arrays. The station's mass is over two million metric tonnes. Unlike the major orbiting stations and colonies in existence in 2071 (Asimov, Bernal Alpha, Clarke, Rhadamanthys), the station does not rotate along its long axis to emulate gravity via centripetal force. Instead, Citidas represents the first station-sized use of a gravity generator network distributed throughout the decks in order to provide 1 Earth gravity for the inhabitants.

Each circular deck in Space Station Citidas has the same general layout. There are four labeled quadrants proceeding clockwise around a central core section. This allows for ease of access to the main elevator shafts and main power and plumbing trunks. Alpha Quadrant is from 0 to 90 degrees, clockwise, followed by Beta, Gamma, and Delta quadrants at 90 degree intervals. Station features on the borders between the quadrants are considered to be a part of the succeeding quadrant according to this table:

Degrees Quadrant
0 Alpha
90 Beta
180 Gamma
270 Delta

0 degrees is also considered "North" for purposes of relative map directions on the station.

[Regular Elevator]
[Service Elevator]

The main elevator suites for the station are within the "point" of Alpha Quadrant, allowing for high-speed access to the Medical, Science, Maintenance, Storage, Flight, Executive, and Engineering levels. They do not directly access the Reactor, Security, and Bridge levels due to security reasons. These levels can be reached via elevators located elsewhere on their adjoining decks. Other elevators also span the main decks to allow for ease of access during peak hours.

The main Service Elevator allows transportation between decks of heavy equipment and oversized cargo containers. It is accessible from the central core on all levels, save for the Reactor and Bridge levels. The Service Elevator is much larger than the other elevators, and has a measurably larger and thicker set of doors, similar to ones used on the flight decks and cargo hold airlocks.

[UltraCray CPU Nodes]
[Security Camera]

SHODAN, the Streamlined Hyper Optimized Data Access Network, manages all automated and data management systems aboard Citidas Station, allowing the human occupants to concern themselves with more important things than routine upkeep tasks. Each deck has a suite of UltraCray "Computer Nodes" that assist in management of that deck's systems, and are constantly polled by SHODAN for any anomalies. The deck security cameras, prominently mounted in all major hallway intersections and large rooms, allow for rapid pinpointing of trouble spots for TriOp Security, Maintenance, and Engineering divisions. Terminals in every room allow for any crew member to query SHODAN.

[Reactor Logo]

2) LEVEL 0 -- REACTOR

* Summary

The Reactor level of Space Station Citidas is the lowest deck on the station. It contains the master controls and upper connection hardpoints for the Reactor, which powers all of the station's systems. Master override controls of the energy management systems are located here, as well as half of the redundant environmental systems (the remainder of these systems are on the Engineering level). There is very little practical decoration on the Reactor Level.

* Alpha Quadrant

The Alpha Quadrant of the Reactor level contains a low-gravity experimentation area, set up to allow for microgravity and manipulation experiments by the staff with the new gravity generators. The master controls and master power trunks for the station's gravity generator network are also housed here. There is a small, tempest and radiation shielded computer terminal room near the outside of Alpha Quadrant.

* Beta Quadrant

The Beta Quadrant of the Reactor level contains several storerooms holding various repair and maintenance equipment, as well as extra radiation suits. There is a dedicated medical bay in this quadrant, allowing for rapid treatment of injuries caused by radiation poisoning and mechanical injury. This medical bay includes a high-level radiation detoxification booth, and an autodoc suite. The entire medical bay and storerooms are shielded against any stray reactor radiation emissions, and this shielding extends to the Elevator that leads to Level 1 (Medical). There is also an engineering office within the shielded area.

* Gamma Quadrant

The Gamma Quadrant of the Reactor level contains waste recycling and heat exchangers for the reactor. It also holds the suite containing the four SHODAN Computer Nodes.

* Delta Quadrant

The Reactor level's Delta Quadrant holds the master monitoring and override controls for the reactor. It also holds monitoring and override controls for other key environmental systems.

* Core
[Radiation Door]

The Central Reactor Interface, located in the Reactor level Core, is the heaviest shielded section of the station. This is the upper portion of the Reactor, and provides all of the power needs for Citidas Station. In case there is a dire need to scuttle the station, the Reactor Overload Authorization Code is entered from this room, and can ONLY be entered from within the Reactor itself, physically, by hand. This is a High Radiation area, and radsuits *must* be worn by any personnel within the Reactor Core. The Reactor Overload code cannot be entered from any other terminal on the station. The authorization code is held only by the chief executive officer of the station, the chief security officer, the chief medical officer, the chief engineering officer, and the Board of Directors of TriOp Corporation.

[Medical Logo]

3) LEVEL 1 -- MEDICAL

* Summary

The Medical level of Space Station Citidas provides the complete facilities of a fully modern Hospital in the modern world, as well as providing laboratories to perform medical research into the realms of unobtrusive bionic cybernetics, tissue and organ cloning, and viral pathology. The construction of the Medical level allows for total isolation of any section of the deck in the case of pathological contamination. The medical level itself is kept clean and antiseptic, but there are several concessions to human habitation due to various posters and artwork on hallway walls, and several small minigardens and potted plants inside reception areas or near recovery wards.

* Alpha Quadrant

Medical Alpha Quadrant contains the majority of doctors offices and walk-in examination rooms for the Hospital deck. Dr. Gunther and Mira Stackhouse's offices are here, as well as a reception area for the offices proper. This reception area also adjoins the infirmary, which provides low-level health care for the station's crew. The suite containing the four SHODAN Computer Nodes is also in this quadrant.

* Beta Quadrant

Beta Quadrant contains the intensive care unit, the surgery suites, and the recovery wards for the medical level.

* Gamma Quadrant

Gamma Quadrant contains more intensive care units and recovery wards, including the neural surgery and recovery suites, and the CryoSleep chamber usage, storage, and maintenance rooms. A separate power circuit is used to provide power to the CryoSleep chambers even in the case of a total power shutdown on the station. There is a reception area adjoining these rooms, and it has nearly direct access to the Core Service Elevator, due to the size of the average CryoSleep chamber.

* Delta Quadrant

Delta Quadrant contains the dedicated viral pathology, bionic cybernetics, and tissue and organ cloning labs, as well as the Autodoc suites. Maintenance equipment for the autodoc suites is stored here. The morgue is also located in Medical Delta Quadrant, and there are additional offices nearby.

* Core
