The opening and closing framing sequences are Robot Carnival's only collaboration. The story and direction are by Katsuhiro Otomo, the artist and animator behind the hit animated feature Akira. The character and art design are by Atsuko Fukushima. Their pantomime tale of the day the Robot Carnival comes to a sleepy desert community is a hilarious black comedy.
