Letters

Now that two issues of AMPlus are under our collective belt, we thought we would take some time and share some of the comments that we have received. For us, fan response is the best indicator of our performance, so I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has written to AMPlus so far. And I urge you to continue to write us. Even though your mail might not appear in the letter column, rest assured that we do read all the mail that we get.

And now, on to the mailbag...

Europe

Hi. You are doing a great job, but your mag would be much better if you would also present european releases.

-- Carsten Priesch (priesc00@marvin.informatik.uni-dortmund.de)

Thanks for the compliment. We will try to include European releases in future issues of AMPlus; this is an idea that we have been kicking around for a while. After all, we list American and Japanese releases--why should Europe be excluded from our release lists? We hope to be adding European releases to the Release Watch in the near future.

Hey

Hey I like it, you do a great job...talk to you later

-- David J. Harmon (folio@mcp.cybertron.com)

Well, all we can say here at AMPlus is "Thanks." Keep reading. We'll do our best to keep you entertained and informed.

GREAT!!!

You're all doing a great job... It's the best internet magazine about animation that i've ever read!!! Continue like this...

N.B: I've got a problem in viewing the second issue graphical version: when i click on the cover, i go to the jurainet server.

(excuse my english, I'm French ^_^)

-- Francois D'Agostini (dagostif@esiee.fr)

Thanks for taking the time to write, and we appreciate your support. It appears that we have a large number of readers in Europe. And there's nothing wrong with your English (and it's certainly going to be better than my French!)

Original Stories and Contests

I have read the new AMPlus Magazine and have enjoyed it, but I was wondering if they publish original stories and plotlines. I do understand that AMPlus is like any major magazine, and it has the support of many of the major anime companies that advertise in the magazine and help finance the magazine it self.
For that very reason I think that AMPlus could help anime as a whole by encouraging new and young writers to make a showing world wide in the anime field. It also can be used as a way those young writers and artists can be noticed by some of your advertisers. It also can bring in more publicity for AMPlus itself.
I know it isn't my place to give my opinon on to or not to do, but I do think that giving people a chance by using a contest format can really do anime and AMPlus a great service. Since you have the authority to judge which ones are best suitable you may also become a contributer in where anime is going.
I thank you for reading my comments, and I hope that AMPlus thrives, because your success is a victory for all that apreciate anime.

-- David Lynn (Stormer@gnn.com)

Hmm... Another David. Thanks for your comments and good wishes. At this time we have no plans for a fan fiction contest. Right now we see our niche as informing the fans of what's going on in the industry.

Your magazine

Fantastic Work!! Finally a site for real art lovers! Keep it up. How about reviewing some of the older flicks...

-- Jeffrey T Wadsworth (jtw8340@usl.edu)

Thanks for your kind words. AMPlus will most probably taking an in-depth look at some of the "older" anime in the near future. We are, in fact, considering adding some sort of regular spot that will highlight anime deserving of more attention.

Issue no. 2

You guys had a great first issue. I just encountered your second issue, so I haven't read through it yet, but will after finishing this ^_^. But I just wanted to make one comment... I like how on you first issue you guys had the little image map that pointed one to either previous or next page. There isn't one for the contents, so it took me a little while to figure out how to read the next page. Because of how nicely this "magazine" is presented, I'd like to try to read it in the order that it's presented, and that's kinda hard if I can't get to the next page. Just some thoughts. Oh, a few ideas for the next issue... perhaps you should try to find a little more info about the new BGC anime that is on the AIC page. Keep the good work coming! Ja ne.

-- Edmund C. Ng (nge@rpi.edu)

We'll keep your suggestions in mind, and believe me if anything comes of the rumors at AIC, we'll do all that we can to bring you the story.

Your Magazine

I saw your magazine on the internet and it was great! It is easily comparable to mags like Animerica. I really liked you anime insights, gaming reviews, and release pages. The whole magazine was overall nicely done with good graphics and articles. In the first two issues, I found at least 5 articles that I was really interested in. I hope you continue to publish such a good mag. I have two things that I would like to see in new issues of AMPlus:

1) It would be really cool to have manga in your comics like Animerica has. I realize this could be costly and near imposible to do for a mag. that has readers that don't pay.

2) Having mecha desighns and stats would also be a great addition to the mag.

If you put these two thing in, your mag. would be comparable to anything out there on paper, and I would pay the $5 most magazines cost for it! I hope you'll consider my ideas, and thanks again for the great magazine.

-- Jim Gray (wombat@winternet.com)

Thanks for your ideas. I happen to agree with you that it would be a nice addition to be able to include translated manga in future issues. The problem is one of money and legality. Manga are copyrighted materials; thus, in order for us to translated and publish--even electronically--any manga would require us to buy the rights to them. I'm sure that I don't have to tell you that this can get very pricey. Right now, AMPlus is not in a financial position where we can start a project of this nature. In the future, though, all things are possible, and this is definitely something I would like to see.
As for your second request--that of manga specs, this again is a copyright issue. We can't use the data without permission from the people who own the rights. Until such permission is granted, our hands are tied, unfortunately.

Great magazine!

I want to say thanks to all of you for putting up such a great online magazine. I have not seen any online or normal magazine with such quality of in-depth coverage of anime as you have. My only wish is for more pictures, and more in-text links (for even deeper research on a subject). What else can I say? The format of your magazine, the layout, pictures, choices of articles and magazine sections are EXCELLENT! Keep up the great work!

I'm looking forward to seeing your next issue.

Sounds like we impressed you. Rest assured that we are constantly trying to come up with new and innovative ideas for AMPlus. Stay with us and see if we can accomodate some of your wishes.
